Martial arts students need to lead a healthy way of life. You should consume the correct meals, use the proper nutritional vitamins, and workout on a regular basis. Drug and/or excessive drinking are certainly not part of healthy living.
Karate strikes are usually described as mainly straight strikes (reverse punches) and a number of leg techniques. Although martial arts styles do show elbow and knee attacks, these aren't usually utilized in competitions; so they usually are not as used as in Muay Thai Kick Boxing. On the other hand, it will depend upon the style of martial art.
